The Josephinenhütte Josephine No. 7 Decanter is a functional work of art designed by Kurt Josef Zalto to revolutionize the aeration of fine wines. Unlike traditional decanters that rely on a broad, static base, the No. 7 features a unique, sculptural shape with a signature "kink" in the glass. This structural fold acts as a wave-breaker when the wine is swirled, creating significant turbulence that allows the wine to breathe and open up in a fraction of the time required by standard vessels. Each decanter is individually mouth-blown by highly skilled artisans in Europe from premium, lead-free crystal, ensuring exceptional clarity and a surprisingly lightweight feel.

The design is specifically engineered to handle both young, tight wines that require aggressive oxygenation and older vintages that need gentle decanting to separate sediment while revealing delicate aromatics. The slender neck is designed for a comfortable grip and a precision pour, while the expansive surface area of the base allows for maximum wine-to-air contact. The Josephine No. 7 is not merely a serving vessel but a technical tool intended to optimize the sensory profile of any wine, making it an essential centerpiece for serious collectors and connoisseurs who demand professional-grade performance.

The Josephine decanter is a really striking object. Like the glasses, it has that distinctive kink which isn't just for looks—it creates a lot of surface area and movement, which is exactly what you want when you're trying to get a wine to open up.

      Josephinenhütte

Josephinenhütte was born from a simple conviction: that the glass you drink from changes everything.

Revived in 2019 by three friends who shared a deep appreciation for traditional craftsmanship, the brand takes its name from a legendary Silesian glassworks founded in 1842, once among the most significant glass manufacturers in Europe and the New World. Almost two centuries later, that spirit of innovation has been reborn.

The creative mind behind every piece is Kurt Josef Zalto, a glass designer in the sixth generation. For decades he studied the influence of shape and material on the flavour of wine, driven by a single vision: to create the finest sensory wine glass possible. The result is the Josephine Collection, his masterpiece.

Every glass is mouth-blown by skilled artisans in a European glass hut, shaped through numerous stages requiring extraordinary precision and concentration. The stem is drawn by hand with pliers, the base formed with specialised scissors in a single rotational movement. No two pieces are identical. Each one is a sculpture.
