Estimates assume a 125 ml pour. Adjust to your glassware and event style.
How do I choose a size for my guest count?
For arrivals, allow 1 to 2 glasses per guest. A Magnum serves about 12 flutes, a Jeroboam about 24, a 6 L about 48.
Why are small bottles more expensive per glass?
Small formats require unique bottling lines and closures. These additional production and packaging costs mean that 200ml or 375ml bottles are more expensive per millilitre than a standard 750ml bottle.
Do larger bottles taste different?
Many drinkers find larger formats age more slowly and show extra freshness due to a lower oxygen to wine ratio.
Are half bottles good for long-term cellaring?
Half bottles are generally designed for earlier drinking. They contain a larger ratio of oxygen to wine, which means they tend to mature and develop faster than a 750ml bottle or a Magnum. If you plan to cellar a wine for years, a larger format is the better choice.
How do I chill larger bottles quickly?
Use a 50 to 50 ice and water bath. A Magnum needs about 30 minutes. 3 L to 6 L needs 60 to 90 minutes. A handful of salt speeds things up.
