The Pressing Matters Pinot Noir 2022 is a captivating expression of the Coal River Valley’s unique terroir, meticulously crafted by winemaker Samantha Connew. This Pinot Noir offers a dynamic balance between elegance and power, with a profile that is both rich and highly aromatic. The 2022 vintage showcases the complexity of the vineyard's diverse clonal mix, each combination contributing its unique characteristics to create a wine that is both refined and expressive.

The semi-translucent ruby red colour, with a bright crimson hue, hints at the vibrancy of the wine inside. The nose bursts with perfumed scents of violets, cherries, and strawberries, intertwined with subtle notes of anise, forest floor, fresh herbs, and spicy cedar. On the palate, the wine is generously flavoured, revealing layers of red and dark cherries, strawberries, and anise, with hints of rhubarb, forest floor, and spices. The tannins are polished and the wine finishes with remarkable length, leaving a mouthwatering impression that makes it hard to resist.

Coal River Valley pinot noir made by Samantha Connew. A very pretty bright ruby in the glass with aromas of amaro and blossom-flecked red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry fruits underscored with hints of spice, Peking duck, leaf litter, dried citrus rind, struck flint and earth. It smells gorgeous, and the palate follows up with smallgoods and undergrowth and mountain herb tones, finishing long with detail, sapid acidity and powdery tannins – it's a wonderful release.

      — – it's a wonderful release. - Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion, 96 Points.

Very good depth of red-purple, the rim brightly purple indictating excellent freshness. Dried herb aromas overlie cherry fruit, the palate medium bodied and deliciously flavoured with succulent sweet fruit deftly tempered by fine-grained tannins that leave the mouth refreshed and ready for more. Long carry. A superb pinot noir that already drinks beautifully and should also age well.

      — - Huon Hooke, The Real Review, 95 Points.

      Pressing Matters

Two families brought together from a love of wine supported by a passionate and talented team. Greg Melick and wife Michelle founded Pressing Matters in 2002, inspired by the potential of the neighbouring Morningside Vineyard to produce the noble European varieties of Riesling, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet. The first vintage was in 2006.Greg's love of Mosel and Burgundy wines inspires Pressing Matters but Greg’s role as father and grandfather are his proudest achievements.

Not long after, the opportunity to unite the Morningside vineyard with Pressing Matters saw the Hall family join the Melicks as partners in late 2019. A friendship formed from a love of burgundy and holidays shared in the family home in Meursault now fuels the next stage of the Pressing Matters story. Significant investment in a new winery, tasting room and general infrastructure and new plantings are some of the first steps of the partnership.
