Ashton Hills Piccadilly Valley Chardonnay 2018
Fruit for the Ashton Hills Piccadilly Valley Chardonnay 2018 was sourced from the Chapel Valley block adjacent the old cemetery in Piccadilly. The nose of this wine boasts white flowers, creme brulee, yellow peach, and lemon curd. On the palate are fresh ripe nectarines and peaches combined with lemon peel, charred cedary oak, and grilled cashews. It is a rich, long and creamy-textured palate. The wine was matured predominantly in seasoned Burgundian oak for a period of nine months prior to bottling.
he 2018 Adelaide Hills growing season was one of extremes. June was unusually dry, July very wet, bud burst was late and January and February were warmer than average. Despite this, a cool March led to a usual vintage harvest date in the last third of the month. Cool days and nights at this time, plus lower than average yields in the Piccadilly Valley, also helped in the development of good concentration and excellent flavours. Enjoy this wine today or with careful cellaring for 10 years or more.
