Grosset Wines stands as an independent winery, committed to crafting seven exceptional premium wines in each vintage. By staying small and focused, Grosset has successfully maintained the unique character and individuality of their wines, earning a well-deserved reputation on the international stage. These wines have consistently been recognized as outstanding, setting the standard for their respective categories. For over three decades, Grosset Wines has remained true to its philosophy. Their unwavering emphasis is on the purity of fruit, ensuring that each sip delivers a genuine and unadulterated experience. The estate vineyards, certified organic by the ACO, are meticulously tended by hand, and the grapes are carefully harvested at their peak ripeness. The winemaking process is a delicate and straightforward one, allowing the true essence of the grapes to shine through. Through dedication, discipline and the application of knowledge accumulated over many years, Grosset Wines has achieved the pinnacle of excellence. Each bottle represents the finest expression of its variety and the unique terroir from which it originates.

A truly unique viticultural site due to its geology, relative isolation and high altitude, Springvale vineyard was purchased by Grosset in 1999 and planted in 2000. The thin topsoil is made up of red loam over limestone, and, atypical for this sub-region, the vines are deeply rooted in slate bedrock. There is a north-south fault line on the eastern border, limiting the vineyard’s expansion. This formation dates back many hundred million years. Vineyard rows are oriented to optimise sunshine.

After 23 years, Grosset Springvale Vineyard has ‘come of age’. This rare combination of riesling clones planted entirely on red loam-over-limestone, with slate at its base, offers bright, floral perfumes, intensity and finesse in the mid-palate, delicacy and yet power and generosity on its finish: the persistence, harmony and balance arising from extended time on lees, vine maturity and impact of site.

Well, seriously, the 2023 Grosset rieslings are wonderful. This has you at hello. It’s structured and a touch reserved but there’s decent flavour both at the outset and throughout and then the finish, well, it saves its best for last. This wine really does seal the deal. Chalk, lime, fennel, a grainy/skinsy aspect to the finish but this is a wine of great fruit purity, finesse and finish. It’s delicious. It impresses with its structure. And it has that extra flourish. Drink: 2024-2042. Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front, 96 Points.
