      Domaine Chanson’s Beaune Le Clos des Fèves Monopole 1er Cru Rouge 2021 represents the epitome of Pinot Noir from one of the most prestigious vineyards in Beaune. Located in the heart of the First Growth vineyards, this 3.8-hectare monopole vineyard produces a wine with remarkable depth and complexity. The wine is made using 100% whole cluster fermentation, which imparts a deep colour and enhances both the aromatic complexity and structure. Aged for 17 to 19 months in French oak barrels, including 30% new oak, this wine displays the elegant balance of minerality, red berry fruit, and subtle oak influence, offering a beautiful terroir expression. With refined tannins and a long, fruity finish, this wine epitomises the essence of Beaune’s unique terroir.

      This is also exceptionally pretty and perfumed with a slightly more deeply pitched nose that features notes of lilac, plum, violet and newly turned earth. There is excellent volume to the muscular and powerful medium-bodied flavours that deliver good if not genuinely special persistence on the overtly austere and complex if slightly lean finish. I suspect that this will successfully age out but it won’t be right away.
