Product Description
The Fire Gully Chardonnay 2024 is a refined and expressive wine that showcases the true essence of Margaret River’s terroir. Handpicked at sunrise from the vineyard’s old vines, the grapes are carefully tended to ensure the purity and vibrancy of their flavours. This Chardonnay embodies the harmony between nature and winemaking, with its rich, textured palate balanced by a backbone of fresh acidity. The wine opens with delicate aromas of lemon zest, quince, and subtle floral notes, leading into a palate that’s layered with ripe tropical fruits and a touch of fine oak. Its smooth texture, combined with a crisp mineral finish, reflects the unique conditions of the Fire Gully Vineyard, where ancient gravelly loam soils and cooling sea breezes combine to create a wine of exceptional elegance. Ideal for pairing with seafood or enjoying on its own, the Fire Gully Chardonnay is a stunning expression of the region’s character and craftsmanship.
Maker
At the helm of Fire Gully is Dr. Michael Peterkin, a distinguished winemaker whose reputation for producing world-class wines has solidified his place as one of Margaret River's finest. As the owner of Pierro Vineyards, Michael brings decades of expertise and unwavering commitment to the Fire Gully brand, crafting wines that stand as a testament to his passion for the region's unique terroir. His hands-on approach is evident in every step of the winemaking process, from hand-picking the grapes at sunrise to small-batch fermentation at the Pierro winery. Under Michael's guidance, Fire Gully wines are carefully crafted with an emphasis on balance, elegance, and the pure expression of Margaret River’s exceptional climate and soils. The result is a portfolio of wines that consistently reflect the best of the region, with each vintage telling a story of craftsmanship, dedication, and respect for the land.
Vineyard
The Fire Gully Vineyard, nestled in the heart of Willyabrup, Margaret River, is a site defined by its rich history and exceptional terroir. Located adjacent to Moss Wood and only a kilometre from Pierro Vineyards, the vineyard benefits from a unique microclimate that combines ancient gravelly loam soils, a cooling sea breeze from the nearby coast, and the moderating influence of the brook system that runs through the property. These natural elements come together to create a vineyard that is both resilient and fertile, producing grapes of exceptional quality. Originally planted in 1988 by Ellis and Margaret Butcher, the pioneers of the region, the vineyard was acquired by Dr. Peterkin in 1998. Under his stewardship, the vineyard has been expanded with new plantings, and regenerative farming practices have been implemented to maintain the health of the soils and preserve the ecosystem. The result is a vineyard that consistently produces wines of exceptional character, complexity, and expression—true to its Margaret River roots and a reflection of the care and attention it receives from the team at Pierro.
