Gundog Rare Game Shiraz 2018 is a very special wine that is produced from Shiraz grown on two fo the most highly regarded terroirs in the Hunter Valley; the Somerset 1970 plantings and Tinkler's Vineyard "48 Block". Red soils, low cropping vines and ruthless fruit selection have combined to deliver a modern style of Hunter Shiraz from a classic vintage. Showing great complexity and poise, Gundog Rare Game Shiraz 2017 offers a bold array of dark fruit flavours, charry French oak and spice, carried over a pure line of natural acidity and savoury tannin. While extremely drinkable now, this Shiraz can be aged gracefully over the next five to ten years for additional development of flavours.

Fermentation with naturally occurring yeast and partial fermentation of whites on skins, are two key practices Gundog have implemented to great effect. With their reds, fermentation in open tanks, hand plunging and shorter maturation periods in premium French oak puncheons illustrate a combined traditional and modern approach to winemaking that helps deliver wines that strike a fine balance between fruit flavour and complexity. Using sustainable vineyard practices, Gundog Estate aims to leave the land in better condition for the coming generations of Australians.
