A poised and powerful tribute—Elizabeth Anne 2023 channels Cooinda Vale’s cool elegance into something truly enduring.
Crafted as the flagship Chardonnay from Pooley’s revered Cooinda Vale vineyard, the 2023 Elizabeth Anne is both a statement of site and a celebration of the family's matriarch. The season was challenging—rainy, cool and wind-swept—but the result is a Chardonnay of balance and structure, with exceptional finesse across fruit, acidity and oak.
Hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed, the wine fermented and matured in Marcel Cadet French oak barriques (50% new) for 11 months. With 50% malolactic fermentation, it brings richness without sacrificing precision. Aromas of churned butter, grilled macadamia and cashew flow into white peach, lemon curd and subtle flint. There's power here, but also a mineral spine and Cooinda’s trademark briny lift—elements that lengthen and sustain the wine long after the glass is empty.

Unctuous white peach, spiced oatmeal, crushed shells and hazelnut cream aromas lead into a palate of tight, briny acidity and a really lovely savoury and stone wake to mark its passage. A wine of presence and poise.
Pooley Wines, established in 1985 by Denis and Margaret Pooley, is a family-owned vineyard that has grown to become one of Australia’s most acclaimed cool-climate wine producers. Situated in Tasmania’s Coal River Valley, the winery has flourished under the stewardship of three generations, with John Pooley expanding the estate by adding the Butcher’s Hill Vineyard in 2003. Her meticulous approach to winemaking honours the family’s legacy while elevating Pooley Wines to new heights of excellence. Recognised as the 2023 Winery of the Year by Halliday Wine Companion, Pooley’s commitment to quality and family values is evident in every bottle.
