      A later start to picking and a mild period of ripening finished with the last grapes being picked in mid-May. A wet 2016 winter gave us a good foundation for our predominantly dry-grown vines on their own roots, and a cool, wet and fiercely windy spring followed, with a slightly higher spring rainfall than the Barossa Valley, which delayed flowering, though conditions during set meant that yields were at average levels. A mild summer with regular rainfall events followed, which allowed the grapes to reach full physiological maturity. The significant rainfall events largely missed our area and therefore we harvested the majority of our grapes in healthy condition. As always, careful hand picking in the vineyard and sorting of grapes as they were processed made sure that quality was not compromised.

      Deep ruby with vibrant crimson hues. Ethereal aromas of blackberry, raspberry compote, Satsuma plum, star anise and cocoa, entwined with crushed flowering herbs, fresh bay leaf, dried sage and rose petal. The palate is rich, complex, powerful and mouth coating with incredible freshness and elegant, silky layers of dark blackberry, Satsuma plum and red currant, a savoury line of charcuterie, and mature, velvety tannins revealing seamless length and depth.

      On the palate, the wine is super fragrant, elegant and fine, with bone broth and rose petals, peppercorns, crushed herbs, black cherry, raspberry pip, black tea and graphite. This is an eloquent wine, and it speaks of the evocatively beautiful place that is the Eden Valley. The tannins hold the fruit in a gentle way in the mouth. It is fine, such a fine expression—I must say, it's not at all what I expected of the 2019 vintage. It's a triumph of a wine. Super.

      Deep colour, still retaining a good tint of purple, the bouquet dusty/earthy/terracotta at first, then spicy berry fruits and earthy char notes join in, with black-loam nuances and the palate is deep and savoury, full-bodied and well supplied with drying tannins. The wine took time in the glass to reveal the fine detail for which the vineyard is renowned. The finish is big on black pepper drying tannins and savouriness. Concentrated and deep, and begs to be left alone in the cellar for a few years.

      Opens with a dusty, terracotta-like bouquet. Turned earth and spicy berry fruits. Black cherry,  raspberry pip, and black tea.

      An evocative wine. Full bodied with drying graphite tannin. Unfurling with red and black berries and crushed herbs, and char notes. Deep and savoury over all.
