Parker Coonawarra Estate Interloper Cabernet Malbec 2016

Since its first release in 1988, the name Parker Coonawarra has represented outstanding quality, longevity and elegance from the region. Based in the very southern end of the Terra Rossa strip, the wines have always embodied a fine, long-lived, classic style. The Hesketh family became the custodians of the vision for Parker in 2013, and have continued with these ideals. The wines offer an exceptional insight into why the Coonawarra region became famous for powerful yet delicious cabernet. The Cabernet portion of Interloper is sourced from Coonawarra, specifically from Parker viticulturalist Brett Williams' vineyard located directly behind the Parker Estate 'Abbey' vineyard. While the Malbec interlopes from the Lienert family vineyard in the Barossa Valley. Partnering with 85% Coonawarra Cabernet, the Malbec component of this wine is drawn from Barossa, an interloper in it's own right.

Following open-top fermentation, the resulting Parker Coonawarra Estate Interloper Cabernet Malbec 2016 vintage was transferred to second-fill French oak Barriques for 22 months maturation. The resulting wine is medium bodied, juicy and fresh with a well-balanced palate of vibrant acidity, lush red fruits and a bramble savouriness that aptly reflects the region. It has an opaque dark red black tinged core with a dark red hue. Scents of ripe red currant and mulberry laced with a hint of cedary tobacco characters and subtle infusions of bay leaf are trailed by dusty vanillin cedar and spice. The finish is spicy and slightly dry with sturdy but fine grained tannins. This wine has a cellaring potential of 4-5 years.
