      This comes from a 1.2-acre plot at the very bottom of the slope on deep, clay soils. Clos des Hospices is located inside the emblematic Grand Cru appellation of les Clos. This small parcel bought by the Moreau family from the Hospices of Chablis in 1904 and is now considered a Monopole. The Les Clos appellation inspires respect. Its flawless strength and outstanding elegance make it a benchmark. While round on the palate, it tends to be more rambunctious that expected! Its assertive minerality is enlivening and its aromatic intensity a hint to its longevity. Even after 10 years of aging, its freshness will not cease to amaze.

      The 2022 Chablis Clos des Hospices dan Les Clos is half fermented in barrel and half in tank before being transferred into the latter for the last six months. This wine goes entirely into barrel, is racked to tank and assembled mid May.

      Since acquiring Clos Des Hospices, the domaine has always vinified the parcel separately. In the context of Chablis this is rounder and fuller than Les Clos. Almost rich. In other words it's like the regular Les Clos on steroids—the flavours are similar, but dialled up. Nevertheless, it retains the signature understated power of Les Clos with fine acidity. Driven and very direct.

      The 2022 Chablis Les Clos Clos des Hospices is half fermented in barrel and half in tank before being transferred into the latter for the last six months. Its well-defined bouquet is more precise than the regular cuvée, with oyster shell-infused citrus fruit, apple blossom, and hints of grilled walnut coming through with time in the glass. The palate is very well-balanced and precise but stricter than the regular cuvée. Very saline towards the finish, with great depth, this is another very impressive wine from what might be Chablis's most underestimated producer.

      100% in barrel, now racked to tank and assembled since mid May. The colour is a lively lemon yellow. Compared to the regular Clos the oak is rather more prominent, but it still struggles to contain the fruit. A faint dusting of coconut. A fabulous intensity of fruit with a lime acidity punctuating the middle. The crème patisserie of the oak will calm. Excellent aftertaste. Drink from 2030-2044.

      (from a .41 ha parcel located at the bottom of the hill in Les Clos). More apparent wood is present on the otherwise similar nose. There is however more richness and volume to the slightly bigger-bodied and more concentrated flavors that also brim with sappy dry extract while exhibiting outstanding length on the powerful and equally compact finale. This isn’t quite as detailed, or as mineral-driven on the palpably citrus-inflected finish and overall, these two wines are qualitatively quite similar even if they offer two different expressions.

      This is like the regular Les Clos on steroids—the flavors are similar, but everything is amplified. There are also nuances of sugar plums and tropical fruits. The hulking fruit at the core is nicely guarded by determined acidity and a pleasant, quinine-like bitterness. While this dynamo will be fascinating to taste early on, try to give it at least five to ten years before opening it.

      Domaine Christian Moreau

      Domaine Christian Moreau is a historic name in Chablis, with the current generation led by Christian Moreau and his son Fabien Moreau, who carry on the family’s legacy. With nearly 8 hectares of Grand Cru holdings out of Chablis’ total 92 hectares, this small but exceptional estate has become one of the leading producers of Chablis, consistently crafting remarkable wines. Although their holdings in Petit, Village, and Premier Cru Chablis are relatively small, the estate’s true highlights lie in its Grand Cru vineyards. They own approximately 3 hectares in Les Clos, 0.41 hectares in Clos des Hospices dans Les Clos, as well as smaller holdings in Valmur, Blanchots, and Vaudésir. Domaine Christian Moreau continues to produce must-try wines from the classic climats of Chablis.

      Rich, Bodied, Sappy

      More richness and volume to the slightly bigger-bodied and more concentrated flavours that also brim with sappy dry extract.

      FINISH
      Saline, Deep, Crème Patisserie

      Very saline towards the finish, with great depth, this is another very impressive wine.
