All of the grapes are sourced from low-yielding estate vines and harvested by hand. Following harvest, the fruit is open-fermented, a method used to produce softer and more subtle tannins. The young wine is then transferred to large-format casks, where it settles for approximately six months. Maturation continues for around one year in small French oak barriques comprising new, one-year-old and two-year-old barrels.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe 2024 growing season was shaped by warm, dry El Niño conditions that provided near-ideal weather during spring and harvest. Limited vineyard moisture resulted in lower-than-average yields, concentrating the estate’s naturally limited production even further. Aromatically, the wine is perfumed and lifted, revealing mulberry, blackberry and raspberry accompanied by subtle hints of coffee. These berry flavours continue across the palate, where smooth mid-palate weight is balanced by polished French oak. A gentle suggestion of toasted oak adds savoury complexity without overwhelming the fruit. The wine is seamless and composed, concluding with impressive length and persistence of flavour. Lake’s Folly advises that its Cabernets can possess cellaring potential of up to 20 years, depending on the vintage.
