Jos. Prüm Bernkasteler Badstube Riesling Spätlese 2024 is a refined, naturally sweet Riesling from the distinguished Bernkasteler Badstube vineyard in Germany’s Mosel region. Produced by one of the region’s most celebrated family estates, it displays the purity, delicacy and mineral definition that have long distinguished the wines of Joh. Jos. Prüm. The Badstube vineyard borders Graacher Himmelreich and is positioned on slopes facing south-southwest and southwest. With gradients reaching approximately 65 percent, the vineyard is less steep than some neighbouring Mosel sites and receives a comparatively moderate amount of sunlight. These conditions contribute to wines that are characteristically floral, finely structured and somewhat more delicate than expressions from Graach or Wehlen.

The grapes for the 2024 release were harvested by hand and underwent spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Spring frost significantly reduced production during the vintage, concentrating the small quantity of Spätlese fruit that remained. The wine opens with an expansive aromatic spectrum encompassing garden herbs, chervil, lemon balm, green citrus peel and ripe mandarin orange. Its palate combines juicy fruit and natural sweetness with piquant acidity, elegant tartness and a refreshingly cool mineral character. Although lush and finely textured, the wine remains remarkably precise, racy and composed rather than overtly sweet. Its barely medium-bodied structure provides excellent flavour intensity without diminishing the graceful lightness associated with Mosel Riesling. The finish is brilliant and persistent, carrying citrus peel, delicate herbal tones and refreshing acidity. It offers considerable ageing potential but can also accompany lightly spiced Asian dishes, poultry, pork, seafood and aromatic cheeses.

Tasting Notes
NOSE
– Fragrant and delicately spiced
Ripe mandarin, green citrus peel, chervil, lemon balm, moss and subtle tropical fruit.

PALATE
– Juicy and finely structured
Mandarin orange, tart citrus, delicate sweetness, piquant acidity and cool mineral freshness.

FINISH
– Brilliant and persistent
Lingering citrus peel, fine herbs, elegant tartness and refreshing mineral tension.

Reviews & Accolades
“This beautiful Spatlese has an extremely wide spectrum of aromas that range from garden herbs to fully ripe mandarin oranges. Then comes the very elegant, racy, barely medium-bodied palate, which has great purity and length in the brilliant finish. Limited production due to spring frost damage. Drink or hold.” — Stuart Pigott, JamesSuckling.com, 95 Points

“The 2024 Riesling Bernkasteler Badstube Spätlese is so openly fragrant and shimmering with chervil, moss and a beautiful overtone of lemon balm. More air brings a fine, gorgeous, charming note of green citrus peel. The palate has a tart sweetness, like a Seville orange peel or green-tinged tangerine. The 2024 is seductive, brilliant, toned, bright, elegant and absolutely charming.” — Anne Krebiehl MW, Vinous, 95 Points

“The 2024 Bernkasteler Badstube Spätlese offers a nose that is both intensely fruity and delicately spiced, with notes of almost tropical fruits and subtle vegetal undertones. Juicy and piquant on the palate, this lush yet finely textured and well-structured Riesling develops a refreshingly cool note with a firm structure and elegant tartness. This is a fantastic Badstube Spätlese to pair with food, especially since it doesn’t actually taste sweet. 8% stated alcohol. Natural cork.” — Stephan Reinhardt, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, 93 Points

Finer Details:
Style – White Wine
Varietal – Riesling
Country – Germany
Region – Mosel, Bernkastel
Vintage – 2024
Bottle Size – 750ml
ABV – 8%

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0043/9258/3217/files/2f1da510-1304-4aea-92bb-34e2cdd6f92b.webp?v=1786069481
