Lutruwita was first introduced as Chatto’s regional wine, bringing together fruit from selected vineyards across the island rather than expressing a single site. The name Lutruwita is the palawa kani name for Tasmania, reflecting the wine’s connection to the island and its diverse cool-climate growing areas. The 2025 blend combines seven Pinot Noir clones: 115, 114, MV6, D5V12, G5V15, D2V5 and D4V2. Fruit is sourced from five Tasmanian regions, comprising the Huon Valley, Coal River Valley, Pipers River, Derwent Valley and East Coast. Each region contributes a different element to the blend, allowing the wine to combine vibrant fruit, floral fragrance, savoury detail and fine structural definition. The 2025 growing season was warm and relatively dry, with rainfall approximately 10 per cent below the long-term average. A wetter-than-average spring supported healthy yields, while the warm and dry conclusion to the season encouraged even ripening and produced medium-weight Pinot Noir with notable intensity and focus. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe grapes were handpicked and fermented for approximately 10 days on skins, with hand plunging used for gentle extraction. Maturation incorporated 15 per cent new French oak puncheons, providing subtle structure without overwhelming the wine’s regional character. Aromatically, the wine displays bright red and black fruits complemented by expressive floral notes and restrained savoury spice. The palate is medium-bodied and focused, with fruit intensity balanced by fresh acidity and finely detailed tannins. Its composition offers a broader snapshot of Tasmanian Pinot Noir, combining the structure of the southern regions with the spice and fruit generosity found elsewhere across the island. Despite its accessible position within the Chatto range, it retains the purity, detail and composure associated with the producer’s more site-specific wines.
