A blend of 58/14/14/9/5% cabernet sauvignon/cabernet franc/merlot/petit verdot/malbec. Matured 20 months in French barriques (35% new). Bright crimson purple. From a great year, this is a beautifully fragrant and seductive Yeringberg with its aromas of blackcurrants, blueberries, cherry blossom, violets and just the right amount of oak-derived cedar and pencil-shaving scents. The epitome of medium bodied, it's elegant, discreet and persistent on the palate, even at this early juncture. Equally important, the fruit is perfectly framed by the wine's fine-grained and silky tannins and, as has been demonstrated on many occasions, this will mature slowly and gracefully.
Pungent sweet spices, fresh leather, violets and blackcurrants on the nose. The palate is finely styled, preferring elegance over brawn. Oak spice and tannins are a touch prominent in its youth but with time they will marry, given the intensity and complexity of the fruit. Bitter chocolate tannins temper the fruit. A refined cabernet blend for the ages.
Red and blue fruit, blonde tobacco and cedar, honey baked ham, some floral and mint perfume. It’s medium-bodied, svelte and red fruited, with a savoury cedar and tobacco edge, fine grained tannin, again that vaguely honey/floral thing, with a strawberry and cocoa powder finish of excellent length. A discreet ‘claret’ style, and certain to reward with requisite bottle age.
Yeringberg’s journey began with Guill de Pury, who grew up alongside the estate’s 19th-century winery in Coldstream, which had ceased production in 1921 due to a lack of interest in fine wines. In 1969, Guill and his wife Katherine decided to replant the vineyard, gradually restoring the estate to its former glory. Their first commercial wine was made in 1974, marking the rebirth of Yeringberg as a leading producer in the Yarra Valley.
Since 2008, the next generation has continued this legacy, with Sandra de Pury taking on the role of winemaker. Sandra’s background is unique—after working as a chef in Hong Kong, studying hotel management in Switzerland, earning an MBA, and working as a management consultant, Sandra returned to her family’s roots in winemaking. Completing a degree in oenology, she became the fourth-generation winemaker at Yeringberg. Sandra’s approach to winemaking is both intellectual and sensory, a perfect blend of technical skill and creative expression.
Yeringberg continues to evolve with the times, with plans for a new winery and a vine replanting program to address climate change and phylloxera. These efforts ensure that Yeringberg will remain one of the Yarra Valley’s most important and forward-thinking producers.
Yeringberg’s philosophy revolves around producing wines that capture the true essence of the Yarra Valley, known for its fine terroir and distinctive varietal character. The de Pury family, as pioneers in the region, is renowned for creating wines that showcase finesse, elegance, and balance, with a particular focus on maintaining the integrity of the region’s oldest vines. Yeringberg’s wines are crafted in small quantities, ensuring the highest quality and expression of the valley’s natural richness.
The red wines from Yeringberg, especially in riper years, show a velvety richness that speaks to the generosity of the land, while still respecting the varietal character. These wines are crafted with great care and attention to detail, resulting in long-lived, complex wines that are true to the estate’s legacy. Every bottle from Yeringberg is a testament to the family’s commitment to excellence and their deep-rooted connection to the Yarra Valley’s exceptional terroir.

Maker:
Guill de Pury, having grown up beside Yeringberg’s dormant 19th-century winery in Coldstream, was inspired by his heritage and, with his wife Katherine, decided to replant the vineyard in 1969. Through their dedication, the de Pury family restored both the site and the reputation of this historic Australian estate, releasing their first commercial wine in 1974. Since 2008, their daughter Sandra has been crafting the wines, while her brother David, with a PhD in plant physiology, oversees the vineyards and Yeringberg’s grass-fed lamb and cattle.
Sandra’s path to winemaking took her from working as a chef in Hong Kong to studying hotel management in Switzerland, and later earning an MBA at the University of Melbourne. After working as a management consultant, Sandra eventually returned to the family business, completing a degree in oenology to become the fourth-generation winemaker at Yeringberg. She describes winemaking as "the perfect combination of intellectual, physical, and sensory engagement."
Yeringberg's commitment to the future is evident in their ongoing evolution. They are designing a new winery and started a replanting program in 2020 to address climate change and phylloxera, establishing two new vineyard sites on south- and east-facing slopes.
The Philosophy:
As pioneers in the Yarra Valley, the de Pury family is renowned for producing wines of finesse and elegance that epitomise the region’s finest offerings. Yeringberg’s wines come from some of the oldest vines in the valley and are crafted in small quantities. Their red wines, particularly in riper years, exhibit a velvety generosity of flavour, while retaining their varietal integrity and unique character. These long-lived wines continue to uphold Yeringberg’s legacy as one of the Yarra’s most important producers.
