Founded in 1729, it holds the distinction of being the very first Champagne House, a visionary endeavour inspired by the foresight of a monk who possessed a remarkable intuition far beyond his era.

In the heart of the Champagne region, specifically in Reims, a significant moment unfolded on September 1st, 1729. It was then that Nicolas Ruinart, driven by the profound influence of his visionary monk uncle, drafted the historic charter that marked the birth of Maison Ruinart, forever etching its name as the world's pioneer in champagne production. Little did they know that this bold initiative would pave the way for an enduring enterprise that thrives and prospers even after nearly three centuries, leaving an indelible mark on the course of history.

During the remarkable period of the mid-18th century, Ruinart made a significant acquisition to enhance its champagne production. The House secured ownership of ancient crayères, subterranean chalk quarries meticulously carved beneath the historic city of Reims. These extraordinary caverns served as the ideal sanctuary for storing their precious bottles, ensuring optimal aging and maturation. Building upon its reputation for innovation, Ruinart continued to push boundaries. In 1764, the House achieved yet another milestone by successfully shipping the first-ever Rosé champagne across the vast expanse of Europe. This ground-breaking achievement introduced a new dimension to the world of champagne, captivating connoisseurs with its captivating hues and captivating flavors.

Bestowed with nobility and adopting the esteemed name Ruinart de Brimont in 1817, the family has diligently guided the House for over two centuries. This steadfast succession ensures the preservation of the family's legacy, as each successor devotes themselves to upholding the traditions and values that define Ruinart. In 1829, Athanase de Villermont’s vast estate just outside the town of Äy provided the backdrop for the founding of an extraordinary Champagne house - but as an aristocrat, Athanese was forbidden from engaging in commercial trade. With the recruitment of Joseph “Jacques” Bollinger, a Champagne merchant, and Paul Renaudin, a Champernois fascinated by the world of wine, the Bollinger legacy began.

The Bollinger style is inimitable and recognised as such by great connoisseurs. It possesses a dense and subtle presence: a balance of the intensity of great Pinot Noirs and the freshness of Chardonnays from the Côte des Blancs. The house’s offerings are rooted in 5 tangible principles: the vineyards; Pinot Noir; magnums of reserve wines; the barrels, and time. Bollinger wines release a creamy effervescence resulting from vinifying in oak barrels and prolonged contact with the yeasts. Every tasting yields new delights that are guaranteed to transport you.

The Vineyard:
Bollinger has built its vineyards at the heart of the finest crus in Champagne. 180 hectares of vines are made up of 85% Grand and Premier crus and are farmed by our teams of growers across 7 separate vineyards: Aÿ, Avenay, Tauxières, Louvois and Verzenay for Pinot Noir; the Montagne de Reims, Cuis for Chardonnay; and the Côte des Blancs and Champvoisy for Meunier.

Another of Bollinger’s distinctive features are the two plots of Clos Saint-Jacques and Chaudes Terres. There, ungrafted vines are entirely tended by hand and reproduced using a form of layering called provignage, preserving the extraordinary heritage from which the Vieilles Vignes Françaises cuvée is produced.

Pinot Noir is the varietal on which Bollinger has staked its reputation. A demanding grape that requires care at every step, it remains front and centre because of the incomparable finesse it brings to a wine. Today, the Pinot Noir planted around the Montagne de Reims represents over 60% of the Bollinger vineyards. This also just happens to be the exact proportion it occupies in Special Cuvée! Multi-faceted and surprising, its unusually high ratio in the blends is a signature of the Bollinger style, to which it lends power, body and vinosity. It has been one of the founding principles of Champagne Bollinger’s identity from the very beginning.

Bollinger is guided by a responsibility anchored in time and a commitment to people, the earth and our roots. This is a wine made for those who truly appreciate both the art of winemaking and the beauty of life itself. The Provence region offers the ideal growing conditions for the Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault grapes, which are the classic blend used to create AIX Rosé. With mineral-rich soils, 300 days of sun per year, and the cooling Mistral winds, these vineyards thrive in this picturesque setting. Maison Saint Aix is not only one of the largest domaines in the AOP Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence appellation, but it is also one of the highest, sitting 420m above sea level. This elevation provides cooler nights and a greater Mistral effect, which helps dry the vines on dewy mornings, resulting in even better fruit. Over the past decade, the estate has undergone a complete transformation, with state-of-the-art equipment and modern winemaking techniques. From temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to pneumatic presses and next-generation harvesting machinery, every step is taken to ensure the production of the highest quality rosé that only Provence can offer. The domaine's 50-60 year old Grenache vines guarantee the highest quality juice, while the fruit from the younger vines brings a refreshing element to the blend. To maintain the harmony of the land, a busy replanting schedule is in place, replacing up to 4 hectares of vines each year with new ones. In early September, the vineyards come alive with a whirlwind of activity from the break of dawn until noon. This dedicated effort guarantees the grapes' utmost freshness, the preservation of their delicate aromas and minimizes the risk of oxidation. It is through this meticulous process that AIX acquires its distinctive colour, delicate aromas, gentle acidity and impressive length. The symbol of the vines reaching towards the sky beautifully captures the enchantment of the land and the camaraderie of those who cherish it. It serves as a poignant reminder of the carefree days spent together under the warm sun and the abundance of shared meals, cherished moments and unforgettable memories that lie ahead. For Maison Saint Aix, this symbol is a daily affirmation of the simplicity and joy that life can offer when we choose not to complicate it. It is with immense pride that they prominently display this symbol on every bottle of their rosé, a privilege they are honoured to share.

Vineyard:
Provence is the birth place of Rosé for a reason. The first sip delivers all the freshness and strength so typical of Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label with a symphony of fruit tastes following on (pear, lemon). Here is a true member of the Brut family, well structured, admirably vinous. The lingering aromas echo and re-echo, with each fruit or almond notes distinct.

Multi-faceted and surprising, its unusually high ratio in the blends is a signature of the Bollinger style, to which it lends power, body and vinosity. Don Julio Tequila is crafted with utmost care and attention to detail, starting with the selection of the finest blue agave plants from the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. These agaves, grown for an average of seven to ten years are handpicked at their peak ripeness ensuring the fullest expression of flavour. The heart of Don Julio Tequila lies in its production process, which combines time-honoured techniques with modern innovation. The agave piñas are slow-cooked in traditional masonry ovens, allowing the sugars to develop and create a rich and complex flavour profile. After the cooking process, the agave is crushed and the juice is extracted, fermented and carefully distilled to perfection. The result is a range of tequilas that exemplify the essence of their respective expressions. From the vibrant and crisp Blanco, with its notes of citrus and agave, to the aged and refined Añejo and Reposado, which showcase the influence of oak barrels with hints of vanilla and caramel, each expression offers a unique and memorable tasting experience. Adèle focused on vineyards and winemaking while Pierre Nicolas focused on sales and marketing. Shipments to Great Britain began in 1815, followed by the United States in 1837. After Charles Perrier, Henri Gallice and his younger brother Octave became Perrier-Jouët directors. Octave, an art lover, met Emile Gallé in Paris and requested a design for Maison Perrier-Jouët, which became the iconic emblem of the brand. One of the world's oldest champagnes, a Perrier-Jouët vintage 1825, was opened and tasted in 2009. Harold Macmillan, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1957 to 1963, favoured vintage Perrier-Jouët. This passion has been passed down through the generations, shaping the House's philosophy of creative freedom and unconventional observation of nature. Maison Perrier-Jouët's affinity with the Art Nouveau movement is expressed through the emblematic anemone motif illustrated by Emile Gallé in 1902. Today, the House continues to reinvent luxury by collaborating with artists to create an extravagant universe. Along with their unique legacy, such as the creation of their first brut champagne in 1842 and the iconic floral Cuvée named Belle Epoque Cuvée, Perrier-Jouët also made history with the appointment of the first woman to hold the position of cellar master in 2020. Perrier-Jouët produces a wide range of vintage and non-vintage cuvée, with an annual production of approximately 3,000,000 bottles. The pride of the brand is its prestige label, Belle Epoque. With 266 acres of vineyards situated in the heart of Champagne, Perrier-Jouët maintains control over the quality and consistency of its champagne production. This groundbreaking champagne was the first of its kind, introducing the concept of a lightly dosed champagne, now known as "brut". During a time when champagnes typically contained high sugar levels reaching up to 40%, Cuvée K dared to be different. It was dosed at a sugar level of less than 5%, a daringly low amount for that era. This truly marked a turning point in the history of champagne, as Maison Perrier-Jouët paved the way for the rise of brut champagnes. The success of Cuvée K can be attributed to Maison Perrier-Jouët's philosophy of using high-quality grapes that required very little added sugar. This commitment to sourcing exceptional grapes has been a guiding principle for the House throughout the years, allowing them to craft brut champagnes that maintain the purity and integrity of the fruit. Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut carries on this legacy, remaining true to Maison Perrier-Jouët's philosophy of minimal sugar dosage. It is a champagne that beautifully showcases the natural qualities of the grapes used in its creation, resulting in a vibrant and expressive taste experience.

Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut NV 1.5L is a champagne that captivates with its silvery gold hue in the glass. First bottled as a single-vineyard wine in 1952 by fourth-generation Cyril Henschke, by the time Cyril purchased the vineyard from Colin Angas in 1974, Mount Edelstone was already well entrenched as one of Australia’s greatest shiraz wines. This area is home to legendary names like Giacomo Conterno and Bruno Giacosa, with vineyards such as Falletto adding to its prestige.

First produced in 1911, the fruit for Massolino’s classic cuvée is selected from seven sites across roughly seven hectares of prime-sited Serralunga vineyards. Today, the estate is under the stewardship of Franco and Roberto Massolino, collaborating with the talented former Vajra winemaker, Giovanni Angeli. Their most important of these sites - Briccolina, Collareto, Broglio and Le Turne - are dotted around the town itself (Le Turne borders Margheria, while Collareto lies next to Vigna Rionda where they are the largest holders with 3.5 hectares of vines, between 40-50 years old. So we are talking quality real estate.

In recent years, Massolino has made significant strides in quality, particularly in vineyard practices. The estate has been organic for six years and has not used herbicides for a decade. Critic Nick Stock has noted that “[Massollino] not only delivers admirable top-end nebbiolo wines, which is ultimately what it will be judged on, but it also makes a near-perfect range that starts with the delicious dolcetto and runs seamlessly through the barbera, to basic nebbiolo before arriving at the top tier wines.” The same can be said of the convivial additions of Riesling and Moscato d'asti in the range.

Today the Nebbiolo-based wines of Massolino sit shoulder to shoulder with the finest of the region - they are wines of wonderful purity and elegance. But give it time, and it should reward most handsomely. - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, 95+ Points

The Chardonnays I have tasted so far from the 2022 vintage in Margaret River remind me of the 2014s, in their soft acidity and primal, almost unbound fruit power. Here, the 2022 Kevin John Chardonnay leads with crushed nuts, salted yellow peach, red apple skins, preserved citrus rind, yuzu, green tea and saltbush, before tumbling into the flavours in the mouth. Toffee apple, nuts, curry leaf and saffron. Concentrated, piercing and intense. The acid envelops the tongue and holds it hostage, while the fruit explodes with power. The Gingin clone is on show here. The wine trails to a soft, juicy finish. It is lingering, very good, excellent, even better after a gentle decant and served in a big Burgundy glass. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. - Erin Larkin, Robert Parker Wine Advocate, 97 Points"

The Finer Details
Style - White Wine
Varietal - Chardonnay
Country - Australia
Region - Margaret River, Western Australia
Vintage - 2022
Bottle Size - 1.5L
ABV - 12%
Other - Organic, Bio-Dynamic

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0043/9258/3217/files/cullen-wines-kevin-john-chardonnay_b7c66aa5-1006-47bd-97ab-4f4c229bed4f.png?v=1734998314
amisfield-pinot-noir-2022-1-5l
Amisfield Pinot Noir 2022 1.5L

Product Description

Amisfield Winery, located in the heart of Central Otago, is renowned for crafting wines that reflect the true essence of the land. Since 1994, they have remained committed to creating exceptional Rhone-style red and white wines that reflect the very best vineyards in Australia's famous Barossa region. Provenance is everything to them, and they believe that the Barossa is the most exciting place to make wine in the world. With a European sense of tradition, Torbreck pays tribute to the vineyards with minimal intervention, creating wines of richness, structure and length that age gracefully. The multi-generational growers, whose descendants arrived here nearly two centuries ago, are the backbone of Torbreck's winemaking aspirations. They work in partnership with the people of the Barossa who grow their fruit, always aiming to get the very best out of their vineyard sites. At Torbreck, they constantly seek to understand the difference between all of these special places in the Barossa and how this combination of soil, climate and farming experience is reflected in unique grape flavors. They are simply custodians, enhancing the innate expressiveness of the wines and enabling them to reveal over time their individual origins and personality. Torbreck is actually named after the forest near Inverness, Scotland where the winery's founder, David Powell worked as a lumberjack after completing university studies.

The winemaking style at Torbreck is meticulous and dedicated to producing exceptional wines. They use carefully selected 225-litre oak barriques for maturation, known as Dominique Laurent 'Magic Casks'. The oak is personally harvested from Forêt de Tronçais in Allier, and the staves are aged for 48 to 54 months at an exposed location for maximum seasoning. The staves are then hand-made into barrels and heated over three differing flames for several hours, resulting in a gentle toast due to the remarkable density of the wood. Torbreck's winemaking style reflects their commitment to producing exceptional wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Barossa region.

The Vineyard | The Struie

Torbreck’s vineyards span the Eden and Barossa Valleys, bringing together two distinct expressions of Shiraz—one high-toned and structured, the other rich and grounded. The Eden Valley sits at higher elevation, between 400 and 500 metres, with rocky ridgelines and gum-strewn hills that promote a cooler, later-ripening profile. This altitude contributes finesse, acidity and aromatic lift—essential traits in wines like The Struie.

In contrast, the Barossa Valley floor lies at 200 to 300 metres and is home to some of Australia’s oldest productive vines, many ungrafted and planted in the 19th century. Here, the gravelly soils and Mediterranean climate produce deeply coloured, powerfully flavoured Shiraz with concentration and longevity. Torbreck’s careful blending of these two terroirs—Eden’s grace and Barossa’s muscle—creates wines with layered complexity and the structure to age. By the mid-1930s Johann Josef’s son, Sebastian, forged the distinctive style of the Prüm wines. From 1969, the imitable Dr Manfred Prüm would elevate Joh. Jos. Prüm to even greater heights, today the estate is run by Manfred’s daughter Katharina Prüm who watches over 13.5 hectares of vines on the harrowing slate-rich slopes of the Middle Mosel. In The Wines of Germany, Stephen Brook writes “With the rise of so many excellent winemakers in the Mosel, one might have supposed that Joh. Jos. Prüm, with its profound conservatism, might have been overtaken and left behind. Not a bit of it. The Estate remains where it has been for decades: at the summit.” Which begs the question, what is the secret to J.J. Prüm's continued success? How do they stand out among top Mosel producers? It’s all about their exceptional vineyards: old vines at great sites, keeping the lowest yields, daring but calculated late harvesting, and a careful selection of the finest berries.

Joh. Jos. Prüm's vineyards are at forefront of the estate's success. Their holdings include vineyards - Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Graacher Himmelreich, Bernkasteler Lay, Bernkasteler Badstube and Zeltinger Sonnenuhr. All of these sites are exclusively dedicated to growing and harvesting Riesling grapes for Joh. Jos. Depending on the specific vintage, the average annual production of wine is typically between 10,000 to 13,000 cases.

The Vineyard
Prum’s four key vineyards are all located on the same continuous slope, all on a mixture of grey and blue Devonian slate soils with varying south-to-south westerly aspects. Positioned in the heart of Mosel the vineyards are named from south to north: Bernkasteler Badstube, Graacher Himmelreich, Wehlener Sonnenuhr, and Zeltinger Sonnenuhr. These vineyards have been in continuous production for some 2000 years.

The major differences between the sites have to do with the variation in the aspect (from south to southwest) and the steepness and the depth of the soil. These are subtle differences, but make for wonderfully distinctive wines. Of course all the vineyards of J.J. Prüm are renowned, but the majestic Wehlener Sonnenuhr vineyard that is the most famous. The revered site lies opposite the village of Wehlen and the Estate owns seven hectares—largely planted to ungrafted wines—which has very thin topsoil over Devonian slate (in some areas of the vineyard the plants grow out of pure rock!). Wehlener Sonnenuhr has the highest pure stone content of all the Prüm vineyards, and along with neighbouring Zeltinger, the steepest of Prüm’s vineyards—with a dizzying 65-70% gradient in places. Wine writer Stuart Pigott summarises perfectly, “In top vintages the Wehlener Sonnenuhr yields the richest, silkiest, most seductive wines on the Mosel. Made only in outstanding years, this vintage blends equal parts Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs and Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims. After seven years of lees ageing, the result is a Champagne of tension, finesse and quiet richness.

The 2015 season began with a mild winter and erratic spring before settling into a warm, dry summer and a perfectly timed cool September. The fruit achieved ideal balance between ripeness and acidity, allowing Laurent-Perrier’s restrained hand to guide the wine toward precision. In magnum, the wine shows even greater freshness and longevity, a format that enhances its slow, graceful development in bottle.

Tasting Notes
NOSE
– Citrus & Blossom
Aromas of candied lemon, honeysuckle and white blossom open over subtle brioche and a hint of beeswax.

PALATE
– Refined & Creamy
A lively and poised palate with layers of citrus, orchard fruit and pastry, framed by fine acidity and delicate chalky grip.

FINISH
– Mineral & Persistent
Long and elegant, with notes of toasted bread, citrus zest and lingering mineral freshness.

Reviews & Accolades
“Very structured with a density and richness… hints of strawberry to the apple character.
