In 1987, Master Blender Keizo Saji decided to develop a blended whisky to reflect the sophistication of Suntory's techniques. While Chief Blender, Koichi Inatomi, sampled and tasted aged malt whiskies from one million casks at Suntory. Together Saji and Inatomi then found the flavour by blending distinctive malt and mellow grain whiskies. The company's success has been driven by a lineage of visionary winemakers who have pushed the development of the company to extraordinary, bold new heights. Mary Penfold's reign at the helm of Penfolds saw years of determination and endeavour, experimenting with new methods in wine production. In 1948, Max Schubert became the company's first Chief Winemaker and he propelled Penfolds onto the global stage with his experimentation of long-lasting wines - the creation of Penfolds Grange in the 1950s. Soon, the medals began flowing, and Grange quickly became one of the most revered wines around the world. In 2012, Penfolds released its most innovative project to date - 12 handcrafted ampoules of the rare 2004 Kalimna Block Cabernet Sauvignon. Schubert joined Penfolds as a messenger boy in 1931 and by 1948, he became Penfolds' first Chief Winemaker. In the latter part of 1950, Schubert was sent to Europe to investigate winemaking practices in Spain and Portugal. On a side trip to Bordeaux, Schubert was inspired and impressed by the French cellared-style wines and dreamed of making 'something different and lasting' of his own. Combining traditional Australian techniques, inspiration from Europe and precision winemaking practices developed at Penfolds, Schubert made his first experimental wine in 1951. In 1957, Schubert was asked to show his efforts in Sydney to top management, invited wine identities and personal friends of the board. To his horror, the Grange experiment was universally disliked and Schubert was ordered to shut down the project. Max continued to craft his Grange vintages in secret, hiding three vintages '57, '58 and '59, in the depths of the cellars. Eventually, the Penfolds board ordered production of Grange to restart, just in time for the 1960 vintage. From then on, international acknowledgment and awards were bestowed on Grange, including the 1990 vintage of Grange, which was named Wine Spectator's Red Wine of the Year in 1995. Today, Grange's reputation as one of the world's most celebrated wines continues to grow. On its 50th birthday in 2001, Grange was listed as a South Australian heritage icon, while the 2008 Grange vintage achieved a perfect score of 100 points by two of the world's most influential wine magazines. With every new generation of Penfolds winemakers, Max Schubert's remarkable vision is nurtured and strengthened.

The Penfolds Bin 95 Grange Shiraz 2012 is a wine that truly embodies the reputation of Australia's most famous wine. The wine is superbly concentrated, with wonderful presence, structure and density. It is plush in scale yet possessing lovely energy and structure, making it a truly transcendent and powerfully expressive Grange that harks back to Max Schubert's original blueprint. This wine is dense, expansive, rich and voluminous, with all elements in perfect symmetry. Its aromatic complexity, generosity and suppleness are reminiscent of the early 1960s, making it a wine that has to be in the pantheon of all-time great vintages. The brand was born from a dream to showcase the beauty of Mexican traditions and land. Its iconic decanter, a unique creation made by Mexican artisans, was the starting point of this dream. The name Clase Azul, meaning blue class, was inspired by the blue agave used to make their spirits and the paint on their first Reposado decanter. Despite facing challenges such as natural disasters and financial crises, Clase Azul has stayed true to its ideals and overcome adversity. In 2007, the brand founded Tradición Mazahua, a ceramic workshop where Clase Azul artisans dedicate themselves to creating the brand's decanters as a tribute to Mexican culture. Today, Clase Azul is proud to share the magic of Mexico with more than 55 countries. The brand has transformed into Clase Azul México, but it still preserves the spirit that drives it to showcase the beauty of Mexican culture to the world. Clase Azul México aims to transcend and represent Mexican culture around the world with its exquisite creations and spaces that reveal the heart of Mexico.

The agaves used for Clase Azul tequilas grow in Los Altos de Jalisco, a region of red-coloured earth that creates unique properties in the plant. To create their exquisite tequilas, Clase Azul follows a long transformation process that involves slow-cooking the agave piñas in masonry ovens, milling them to extract the sugars, fermenting them with patented yeast, and double-distilling them in copper stills. Clase Azul Tequila Plata is the unaged tequila that captures the notes of the agave, but the journey isn't over yet. The tequila is matured in casks made from oak or other types of wood, allowing it to develop a more complex profile. Clase Azul also honours the tradition of mezcal, which can be made from a wide range of agave species and reflects the soil and conditions that have nourished the agave. The artisanship found in Clase Azul's decanters is a reflection of Mexico's cultural diversity. Each decanter is a creative process that demands artistic drive, technical ability and knowledge passed down for generations. The tequila decanters tell stories through their decoration, while the mezcal decanters display caps decorated with precious artisanal techniques.

Clase Azul Reposado Tequila 700ml stands as a symbol of Mexican tradition and culture, embodying the essence of craftsmanship and excellence. Crafted with meticulous care using slow-cooked 100% Blue Weber Agave, this ultra-premium reposado tequila is a testament to the unique and incomparable flavors that Mexico has to offer. To create Clase Azul Reposado Tequila, a masterful aging process takes place over eight months in American whiskey casks. This careful maturation imparts a distinct character to the tequila, infusing it with the rich flavors of hazelnut and vanilla that tantalize the palate. The result is an exceptionally smooth finish that leaves a lasting impression. What truly sets Clase Azul Reposado Tequila apart is its iconic decanter, recognized worldwide for its exquisite design. Each decanter is meticulously hand-painted in cobalt blue, featuring a distinctive "feathered" pattern that is instantly recognizable. This artistic touch pays homage to the craftsmanship of Mexican artisans, making every decanter a unique piece of art. As you pour Clase Azul Reposado Tequila into your glass, you are greeted by a beautiful gold colour with bright yellow highlights, a visual representation of the tequila's luxurious character. Its medium body coats the palate, offering a smooth and velvety mouthfeel that enhances the tasting experience. The aroma of Clase Azul Reposado Tequila is a delightful blend of scents. The sweetness of agave syrup intertwines with the inviting notes of vanilla and the tangy aroma of candied orange peel. The presence of American oak adds depth and complexity, while light hints of cinnamon and banana add a touch of intrigue. When it comes to taste, Clase Azul Reposado Tequila delivers a symphony of flavors. The nuttiness of hazelnut pairs harmoniously with the smooth essence of vanilla, creating a rich and indulgent palate. Cloves and cinnamon add a subtle spiciness, while a hint of agave syrup lingers in the background, providing a delicate sweetness that perfectly balances the overall profile. To fully appreciate the magic of Clase Azul Reposado Tequila, it is recommended to pair it with dishes that complement its unique flavors. A rich cut of pork, such as pork shoulder or pork ribs, accompanied by an acidulated sauce, provides a savoury and satisfying pairing. For cheese enthusiasts, aged cheese such as sheep milk cheese or smoked provolone, paired with honey and old-style mustard, offers a delightful combination of flavors. Founded in 1729, it holds the distinction of being the very first Champagne House, a visionary endeavour inspired by the foresight of a monk who possessed a remarkable intuition far beyond his era.

In the heart of the Champagne region, specifically in Reims, a significant moment unfolded on September 1st, 1729. It was then that Nicolas Ruinart, driven by the profound influence of his visionary monk uncle, drafted the historic charter that marked the birth of Maison Ruinart, forever etching its name as the world's pioneer in champagne production. Little did they know that this bold initiative would pave the way for an enduring enterprise that thrives and prospers even after nearly three centuries, leaving an indelible mark on the course of history.

During the remarkable period of the mid-18th century, Ruinart made a significant acquisition to enhance its champagne production. The House secured ownership of ancient crayères, subterranean chalk quarries meticulously carved beneath the historic city of Reims. These extraordinary caverns served as the ideal sanctuary for storing their precious bottles, ensuring optimal aging and maturation. Building upon its reputation for innovation, Ruinart continued to push boundaries. In 1764, the House achieved yet another milestone by successfully shipping the first-ever Rosé champagne across the vast expanse of Europe. This steadfast succession ensures the preservation of the family's legacy, as each successor devotes themselves to upholding the traditions and values that define Ruinart.

Clase Azul Tequila Plata 700ml is a remarkable expression of the Jalisco Highlands' 100% Blue Agave, meticulously crafted to perfection. From the moment Arturo Lomeli first tasted it, he knew he had created something truly extraordinary that would captivate the world. The journey to creating Clase Azul Tequila Plata begins with organic agaves that have matured for a minimum of nine years. These agave hearts undergo a slow cooking process in traditional ovens, allowing their flavors to develop and intensify. The fermentation process, utilizing the company's secret combination of yeasts, further enhances the tequila's distinct character. Careful distillation ensures that only the highest quality spirits make their way into each bottle of Clase Azul Tequila Plata. The water used in the production undergoes a meticulous five-step refinement process, guaranteeing its purity. To achieve superior quality, the tequila undergoes triple filtration, resulting in a smoothness that is unparalleled. Every bottle of Clase Azul Tequila Plata is adorned with a handcrafted decanter, crafted by skilled artisans from local communities. These unique decanters reflect the beauty and artistry of Mexican craftsmanship, adding a touch of elegance to the tequila. When it comes to taste, Clase Azul Tequila Plata is a sensory delight. Its bright and crisp character invigorates the palate, while its artisanal production process creates smooth and irresistible notes with a hint of sweetness. Sipping on Clase Azul Tequila Plata is a sublime experience, rivalling the finest tequilas ever produced. As you pour Clase Azul Tequila Plata into your glass, you are greeted by its clear appearance, shimmering with silver highlights. Its light to medium body glides effortlessly, creating a refreshing and enjoyable drinking experience. The aroma of Clase Azul Tequila Plata is a burst of freshness. Notes of orange, lemongrass, and mint tantalize the senses, while hints of vanilla, green apple, and green tea add depth and complexity. When it comes to flavour, Clase Azul Tequila Plata does not disappoint. The smooth essence of vanilla mixes with the bright zestiness of Meyer lemon. Fresh mint provides a refreshing burst, while a hint of green guava adds a unique twist. To enhance the experience, Clase Azul Tequila Plata pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes. Citrus-marinated white fish highlights the tequila's vibrant flavors, while fresh cheeses like panela or mozzarella, along with aged cheeses like Grana Padano, create a harmonious balance. Hard to say whether it's a classic Grange but it's certainly very, very good. - Bob Campbell, The Real Review 98 Points.

2006 Grange is a focused, oak sopper of formidable physique that shows its hallmark ability to impressively mesh raw, layered fruit power, architectural tannins and a swathe of pristine, heady oak. It bugs me to see the wine in this state – as a glass-to-glasser in its infancy it is adamantine in this incarnation. Here, we as wine writers, are given the job of soothsayers; will it live for decades, undoubtably, will it further weave and show the kind of intellectual edifice for which this acolyte of wines is renowned, I reckon. It’s as impressive as I have ever seen new release Grange and a treatise to the work and machinations of winemaking. However, it also manages to toe a line that represents a manifestation of the old school sense of brooding, pent up muscle-and-brawn, while showing the lattice-work of modern ripeness and tannin flex. A fountain of youth forged from vineyard and fruit selection. There is a quiet awe at hand, but here is the consumer advocate in sotto voce, as this is a wine that strays from where current pleasures lie for me. In fact it’s beautiful. Showy vanillin, coffeed, toasty oak is the first impression – as you’d expect of a Grange – though it’s neither syrupy nor malty. The big surprise with this release though is that it doesn’t have the bigness of tannin that some (or most) Grange releases boast. Is this a bad thing? In this case, no – because the balance of this 2005 is brilliant. So too is the dark fruit power motoring through the finish. Grange is renowned for its ‘formula’, but this vintage changes the tune according to the wants of the season – less muscle, more finesse. A vote for the craft of the winemakers involved. It’s persistent and seductive and awash with flavours of sweet, dense, meaty, smoky, leathery blackberry and blackcurrant. It is this partnership that reveals an unmatched investment in time and extraordinary commitment to mastery for which the Macallan has been known since 1824. The Macallan brings new oak from America across thousands of miles to Spain, where casks are crafted and sherry seasoned before travelling to our distillery in Speyside.
